Help
Setting up mera takes three things: a size chart for each product, the size finder block in your theme, and approving billing in Shopify. The answers below cover each, and what your shoppers see once it is live.
Getting started on Shopify
How do I set mera up?
- Install mera from the Shopify App Store. It opens inside your Shopify admin and imports your products. There is no separate account to create or password to remember.
- Add a size chart for each product you want sized, on the Products page. See Size charts.
- On the Installation page, choose your theme and click Add the size finder to my theme. Your theme editor opens with the block already placed. Move it if you like, then click Save.
- On the Billing page, approve the charge in Shopify. Your first month is free either way. See Billing.
The setup checklist on the dashboard home tracks each of these for you.
Does mera change my theme code?
No. mera adds one theme app block, called Mera Size Finder, which you place and switch on in the theme editor like any other block. Nothing is pasted into your theme, and mera only has read access to it. Removing the block, or uninstalling the app, takes the size finder off your store.
Which themes does it work with?
Themes that support app blocks, which means Online Store 2.0 themes, including all of Shopify’s current free themes. The Installation page warns you if the theme you pick is an older one, or if its product page cannot take an app block.
I'm not on Shopify. Can I still use mera?
Yes. mera also works with WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow and custom storefronts. Sign in at mera.software and the Installation page shows the steps for your platform.
Size charts
What goes in a size chart?
The body measurements of the person each size is made for, not the measurements of the garment laid flat. For a T-shirt that is bust or chest, waist and hip. Trousers and jeans take waist, hip and inseam. mera matches the shopper’s own measurements against these, so a chart copied from a garment spec sheet will recommend sizes that are too small.
Each value can be a single number or a range, such as 89-94. Charts are in centimetres.
How do I add one?
On the Products page, click Add Size Chart, give it a name and choose the garment type. You can type the sizes into the table, or click Download Template for a CSV with the right columns, fill it in with your own sizes, and bring it back with Upload CSV. Click Save when you are done.
In Product ID, which every chart needs, enter the product’s handle (the end of its page address) or its ID. That is what tells mera which product the chart belongs to. Each chart belongs to one product, so for products cut the same way, upload the same CSV to each one’s chart.
My products were imported, so why does the size finder not show on them?
The size finder only shows on a product whose chart has at least one measurement in it. Products arrive from Shopify without measurements, because mera cannot know how your brand cuts them, so until you fill a chart in the button stays hidden. That way a shopper never sees a button that cannot give them a size.
The one exception: if your whole catalogue is one size chart, not linked to any product, mera uses it on every product.
Do new products sync automatically?
Yes. New and updated products come across from Shopify as you make them. A new product sold in sizes gets a blank chart, ready for you to fill in. To pull everything again at any time, click Sync from Shopify on the Products page.
The size finder on your store
The size finder is not showing on my store
- Check the product has a size chart with measurements in it. See the question above.
- Open your theme editor, go to a product page, and check Mera Size Finder is in the block list with its eye icon on.
- Check you clicked Save, and on the theme that is live.
- Check billing on the Billing page. If your free month has ended and billing is not approved, the size finder switches off until it is.
Can I change the button?
Yes. The button’s text is a setting on the block in your theme editor. The Customisation page in the app styles the size finder itself: fonts, colours, layout and buttons.
What your shoppers see
What does a shopper do?
They tap Find My Size on the product page and give their date of birth, gender and height. Then they give two photos, one facing the camera and one from the side, either from their photo library or by letting mera use the phone’s camera, in which case it talks them into position and takes both. mera works out their measurements, matches them to your chart for that product, and gives one size. Apply size selects that size on the product page.
A shopper who would rather not use photos can tap Enter measurements instead and type them. That option is always there.
Do shoppers need an account?
No. A shopper can use the size finder as a guest. They can choose to save their measurements with an emailed sign-in code, so they are not measured again next time, on your store or any other store using mera.
What makes the photos work well?
- Fitted clothes. Jackets and loose layers hide the body’s shape.
- Shoes off, against a plain wall in even light.
- The phone propped upright at hip height, about three big steps away, with the whole body in frame.
- On an iPhone, set Settings, Camera, Formats to Most Compatible, so photos save as JPEG.
The size finder shows these tips to shoppers before they start.
What if a shopper is outside my size range?
mera still gives them your closest size, and tells them plainly that it may be too small or too big. It never pretends a size fits when the chart says it does not.
Which languages and units?
The size finder follows your storefront’s language, in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Japanese, and Brazilian and European Portuguese. Shoppers can switch between centimetres and inches, and US stores start in inches. The app’s own dashboard is in English.
Billing
How much does mera cost?
Nothing to install and no monthly fee. mera charges a commission on order lines where the shopper bought the size mera recommended, excluding tax and after refunds and cancellations, and nothing else. The rate and a worked example are on the pricing page.
Is there a free trial?
Your first month is free. Sales during it show on your statement and are never charged.
How am I billed?
Through Shopify’s own billing, with a spending limit you approve. We add each sale’s commission to your Shopify bill after the 30-day return window, and Shopify invoices you on its usual cycle. The Billing page lists every sale behind every charge, and why each one was or was not charged.
What if I don't approve billing?
Nothing is charged. The size finder stays on until your free month ends, then switches off until you approve. Sales made before you approve are never charged.
What happens if I reach my spending limit?
Charges pause, and the Billing page tells you. The size finder stays on for seven days, then switches off until you raise the limit on the Billing page or Shopify’s 30-day window makes room again.
I'm testing on a development store. Will I be charged?
No. Development stores always get Shopify’s test charges, and the Billing page says so. No money changes hands.
What happens if I uninstall?
Billing is cancelled and the size finder comes off your store. Your size charts and settings are kept, so if you reinstall they are still there, and you approve billing again. Your mera account stays until you delete it from the Settings page.
Privacy and data
Are shoppers' photos stored?
No. The photos are measured inside the shopper’s own browser and are never uploaded to mera or anyone else. Only the measurements leave their device. Before any photo is taken or chosen, the shopper agrees on a separate consent screen that says what is collected and how long it is kept.
What do I see about my shoppers?
Product-level analytics, and, for an order that followed a recommendation, the size mera recommended. You never see a shopper’s photos, date of birth or individual body measurements.
How does a shopper get their data deleted?
A shopper with a mera account can download or delete their information from their profile in the size finder. Anyone can email privacy@mera.software. The privacy policy sets out what is kept and for how long.
